At this point in the summer, the word I would use to describe my feelings is anticipation. Anticipation for CAYU as we look to a change in leadership, anticipation as we dream about God’s leading in programs for the fall, and anticipation in what He plans to do in the lives of our youth and families that interact with the staff and volunteers across CAYU. There is always nervousness, but endless assurance that Jesus says, “I have got this” and I feel assured by His greatness and His truth that when we seek Christ first, He will take care of the rest.
One of the greatest anticipations that I have this fall is a new program called Club456. It is taking the place of our younger age drop in. Although it is always fun to have free time with middle school kids, I am very excited for what God has planned for a “similar to a youth group” program with Lacombe’s middle school kids. It will run Wednesdays from 3:00-5:30 and we are going to play games, have great conversations, and of course eat with one another—because who isn’t hungry after school?
Another one of my favorite parts of summer is the anticipation that youth have as they look towards their next step. From middle school to junior high, junior high to senior high, and senior high to post secondary, working or traveling. I love hearing youth dream about what is next in their lives. One morning over breakfast this summer, one of our youth explained her excitement for graphing numbers in math. I then had the opportunity to see her post-secondary school as she finalized registration. We explored the school and it was an honor to not only see where she would be living her life over the next several years but to get a glimpse of her anticipation for all of it.
I love the anticipation that summer brings. From relaxed, sunshine filled walks, to a world of new things for the Lord to do. Please pray with me as anticipation fills the mind and hearts of those around us, that God would be at work in each area of our programs, youth, and families. Pray that we would all realize His work and His love for us as we anticipate the excitement of fall.
