I have a student that has been coming to my programs for about two years now. She has grown and matured so much over the past two years. She asks tough questions about God and faith, and she is always looking for opportunities to impact and serve people around her. You can just tell she has a good head on her shoulders and she is wanting something more for her life than what she sees around her.
Unfortunately a few months back she stopped coming to youth and church. From what I could tell she was hanging out with some not-so-great people doing some not-so-great things. I hadn’t seen her in a couple months when I heard one of her family members had passed. A couple days later I got a text message from her mother thanking me for helping her daughter believe in God, and that during their mourning she had comforted her family by talking about her faith and reminding that them that God is with them, even in their grief. As I read this message I couldn’t help but cry as I was overwhelmed with God’s goodness.
All this time I felt defeated thinking that she wasn’t where she needed to be or doing what she needed to be doing. I realized that even when it feels like the work I’m doing is useless and I don’t see any immediate results, God is still at work. God is working. He is working in Maskwacis, He is working in Central Alberta, and He is working in many youths’ hearts.
