Summer takes on a whole new look at Stepping Stones. Instead of meeting weekly for a program, we take advantage of the few months of nice weather that we do have here in Alberta and hit the parks, splash parks and beaches together. We also have a community garden that the Stepping Stones mamas have planted. Each week a pair of the moms is responsible for the weeding and watering of the garden. Our monthly Family Supper Night program continues on through the summer months. This is a highlight in our month as we see young moms coming together with their mentors to prepare a meal for our community—which we offer in partnership with Ponoka FCSS free of charge.
I love the casualness of the summer months. The connections with our ladies seem to happen naturally as we live our lives with our families alongside of these young families. Summer provides opportunities to connect over a campfire or a playdate at the park. These kinds of connections remind me of Jesus’ ministry to his disciples—living real life alongside his friends—true discipleship.
