It has been a busy couple of months with the YU-turn housing program. We have had two new move-ins, two new house parents to orientate and lots of ups and downs with the young men in the program. Even with all the changes happening at the house, I love how quickly relationships can grow between the students and staff. Every time I’ve stopped by the house, there’s a layer of laughter and inside jokes that I don’t understand, there is encouragement to get homework done, invites to exercise and play sports, lessons on how to cook more than just oatmeal and Raman noodles, and most importantly, there is prayer happening for these young men. For example, Nico* has been having trouble getting out of bed and getting to school, he is behind in his school work and basically only knew how to cook oatmeal a week ago. Over the past month, he has learned to cook eggs and make a meal of it, he is acing the homework that he is actually finishing through the help of tutoring, and he has actually made it to school a few days (well…when there’s track). Walking with these young men takes a team to surround them with the love of Christ. Through these relationships, we see change slowly happening in these young men. Thank you for your support.
